The entire world is dealing with the novel coronavirus outbreak. COVID-19 has taken thousands of lives globally. India has registered over 7900+ novel coronavirus-positive cases. People all over countries across the world are practicing self-quarantine methods and working from home in order to avoid the further spread of the new disease.
However, there is a lot of fear, anxiety, and panic surrounding the novel coronavirus and in these times of despair, we need to look at the silver lining. There are many positive aspects to work from home. Human interaction is limited, but productivity is high.
With almost everyone working from home and not doing the daily commute to their office, suddenly, it seems like the hours in a day have increased. This seems to be the perfect time to get back to your hobbies and do the things that bring you joy.
HOBBIES
With all the extra time on your hands, it is time to go back to the things that make you happy. It is time to take up cooking again. Go to that YouTube channel that will teach you how to make your favorite Dal Makhani without stepping out. Take out the brushes that are gathering dust in your cupboard and start stroking them on the canvas. Read that book that you have been meaning to for so long. Do the things that bring you happiness.
FOLLOW A ROUTINE
The first thing that goes haywire when you start working from home is your daily routine. The getting up at a particular time, taking a shower, having proper breakfast and leaving for office - all of it goes right out of the window. The best way to take the situation under control: make an hourly time table and try and follow it.
WORK OUT
During the time of social distancing, workouts at home are one of the best things that you can do. At least, Bollywood stars say so. Working outlets the endorphins flow and as a result, you feel happy. Bollywood celebrities from Katrina Kaif to Rakul Preet are working out at home and inspiring their fans to do the same. Be it some basic stretching, a small yoga session or just a 30-minute high-intensity workout, it is highly effective and recommended.
WORK STATION
Just like in the office, sitting on a desk and a chair while working from home can help maintain the difference between home and office. Sitting in a designated workspace just like in-office increases your output and keeps lethargy at bay. Avoid the urge to work from your bed. You will end up going to sleep.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
With all the free time that you have now, you can learn something new; something that you have always wanted to. You can learn a new instrument. Guitar lessons are available on YouTube. There are online courses that can help you learn a new language. There is nothing that Google cannot help you with. We recently discovered that one can even learn how to DJ at home, without having a console.
SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY
Because a lot of people are working at home these days, families are ending up having to spend time together. Even though a lot of people are sitting at their work stations, inside a room, you can still hear your families in the background. The voices from the kitchen coming to your ears and the smell of the fresh food traveling to your nose, it seems like a two-week-long weekend. Additional plus point, you also get to spend more time with your pets.
TIME TO NETFLIX
In addition to all those points, you also get more time to catch up on your Netflix and Amazon Prime lists. You can binge-watch your TV series while enjoying the food that you just cooked after learning the preparation from YouTube.
CLEAN YOUR HOME
You cannot run away from cleaning anymore. If your home is your workspace now, keeping it clean helps you get in the right mindset. It is time to clear that chair that has a huge pile of clothes on it and organize your cupboard. Believe us, even Deepika Padukone is doing so.
Self-quarantine is not easy, we know. Especially for us Indians, who have grown up with people. But it is the need of the hour. So be responsible. Stay home. Think of the thousands of healthcare staff who are going to work just so you don't have to step out of your homes. And while we're saving the world, make the most of the free time too!
