It’s midday, and your face looks like it’s suffering from an oil spill. It is possible for those of us with oily skin to wear makeup all day long without looking like something the cat dragged in.
Here are several products with the perfect routine to make sure our makeup doesn’t budge despite our oily skin.
1. Clean = Clear
First things first, get your skin game on. Use a gentle oil-free cleanser daily like the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser to rid your skin of all the gunk that often clogs your pores. Follow it up with a mild exfoliator at least once a week so your skin is smooth and dead-skin free.
2. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you can skip this essential step in your CTM routine. We recommend the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel which is infused with Hyaluronic Acid that works wonders in moisturizing your skin from within. Remember, when your skin is hydrated your oil glands don’t go into overdrive with the sebum production.
3. Primed And Ready
Just a little mattifying primer goes a really long way. Not only does this work as the perfect base for your foundation to adhere to making it last longer, it also keeps your skin looking matte and fresh on days you don’t want to wear foundation. We’re in love with the Lotus Make-Up Ecostay Insta-Smooth Perfecting Primer Mattifying Oil-Free because of its matte finish and because it’s lightweight and gentle on acne-prone skin.
4. Get, Set(ting Powder), Go
Take your anti-oil campaign one step further and dab your face with a translucent setting powder before you reach for your foundation. Not only will this absorb the extra oil keeping your face looking matte for longer, but it will keep your makeup in place all day long. We added the L.A Girl HD Pro Setting Powder to our beauty routine and haven’t looked back since.
5. All About The Base
Since your skin already produces more oil than the Middle East, you need a long-wear foundation that’s oil-free. Get your hands on the super blendable L'Oreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Foundation with SPF that comes in 13 shades across skin tones.
6. Spray It On
We’ve discovered that using an extra layer of protection for our makeup works wonders. Behold, the setting spray. Just spritz it on when you’re done with your makeup sesh and if you’ve got a long day ahead of you, carry the NYX Professional Makeup Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray Matte Finish in your bag to give your face that fresh lift whenever you need.
7. Get Waterproof!
Waterproof mascara might be the hardest thing to get rid of but when it comes to oily skin girls, it’s the savior you’re looking for. Try the Maybelline New York Volum Express Hyper Curl Mascara - Waterproof Very Black which not only lasts long but also looks great ‘coz it doesn’t clump.
8. Get In Line
Using a liner to line your lips prevents your lipstick from “bleeding”, something we oily-skinned girls often suffers from. If this trick makes your lipstick last longer AND makes your pout Kylie Jenner-like in the process, do you need any more convincing? We’ve got ourselves the Nykaa Lips Don't Lie! Line & Fill Lip Liner.
9. Blotting Paper
If all this fails and you still find yourself unfortunately shiny during the day, carry blotting papers to gently pat (and not wipe) away from the excess oil without destroying your makeup. They Shiseido Oil-Control Blotting Papers are easy to carry in your bag and work like a charm too.
